01 / CONCEPT GARDENTERRACE / ILLUSTRATIVE CONCEPT
The Pocket Terrace
A garden, even here.

THE IMAGINED BRIEF
A place for
everyday life.
Make room for a morning drink and a planted view in a small ground-level outdoor space, using a limited family of containers.
- Setting
- A small ground-level terrace
- Light direction
- Part shade · subject to site observation
- Design intention
- Small-space living
PLANTING / ROUTE / PAUSE
The idea,
from the ground up.
One generous planted edge makes a stronger gesture than many scattered small pots. The furniture stays simple, leaving a clear route from the door to the seat.
Plant selection starts with container volume, available light and exposure. The library offers inspiration, but a real container scheme also needs drainage, watering access and a realistic plan for repotting.
This is a ground-level terrace concept. Raised decks and balconies require separate checks for loading, waterproofing and building requirements before heavy containers are proposed.

THE MATERIAL PALETTE
Details that
settle in.
- Terracotta and bronze-toned containers
- Cedar bench
- A plain stone floor
Materials shown describe the concept. Their specification, sourcing and installation would be agreed for an actual site.
THE LIVING LAYERS
A palette to
begin with.
Explore the plants as inspiration. The final mix depends on measured conditions, available space and care.
GROWING WITH THE PLACE
Care belongs in the design.
Containers dry differently from garden beds. Check their drainage and moisture regularly, and leave access for watering and future repotting.
