FRONT GARDEN / ILLUSTRATIVE CONCEPT

The Woodland Threshold

A quieter way home.

The Woodland Threshold — illustrative garden concept

THE IMAGINED BRIEF

A place for
everyday life.

Give the entrance a legible route, soften its edges and make the first view feel settled into a woodland setting.

PLANTING / ROUTE / PAUSE

The idea,
from the ground up.

The route is the first decision. A direct arrival remains easy to understand while planting gathers at its sides, framing the door rather than hiding it.

Fern textures and low evergreen forms create a gradual transition from built surfaces to planting. A vine maple is shown as a possible canopy, with any actual position depending on the space available and existing roots.

The drawing is deliberately simple. It identifies arrival, planting and a pause, while leaving levels, lighting, visibility and access dimensions for a measured design.

THE MATERIAL PALETTE

Details that
settle in.

  • Broad natural-stone route
  • Cedar threshold detail
  • Leaf-mulched planting beds

Materials shown describe the concept. Their specification, sourcing and installation would be agreed for an actual site.

THE LIVING LAYERS

A palette to
begin with.

Explore the plants as inspiration. The final mix depends on measured conditions, available space and care.

GROWING WITH THE PLACE

Care belongs in the design.

Work carefully around established roots and retain useful leaf litter in planting areas. Keep the entrance and any sightlines clear.
